We are a church of Christ in the most Biblical way possible. In everything we do, we emulate the pattern of the churches in the first century as seen in our public worship, organization, and work. We invite sincere inquiry into everything we do and teach.

The church is bi-lingual and multi-cultural. We will make no compromise on racial or cultural issues, and invite interested people from any racial or cultural part of society to faithfully serve the Lord with us. Both our current elders and deacons are drawn from different segments of society.

Although the roots of the San Bernardino church go all the way into the late 1860, and at sometime before 1900 the church was regularly meeting, we know it was “reorganized” in 1908. We have a listing of so-called charter members of the church, now reorganized, from October 1908, as well as the ledger of income and expenses from that time.

In 1923, local preacher E. M. Reed worked with several smaller churches in the area, resulting in a “merging” of members and works. An eldership (a plurality of scripturally qualified men who served in oversight) was established at that time, but apparently was lost, shortly thereafter. The church was incorporated in February 1925 as the “Church of Christ of San Bernardino, California” and later that year, a building was completed on Bellevue Street, just a few blocks south of the Union Station (near the Santa Fe RR yard). In 1932, Homer Hailey was engaged for a protracted meeting which ran about 2 weeks in duration; during the course of that series of gospel meetings, another eldership of three qualified men was appointed. Two of those men, John Gravlee and Gowan Evans, eventually served the church for 58 and 55 years, respectively.

In September 1946, a new building with a neo-gothic architectural design was completed at a cost of almost exactly $100,000, entirely subscribed by members of the San Bernardino church (and other interested persons). Other than a short period of time in which additional adjacent property was acquired for necessary parking, the church has never incurred any indebtedness.

What the future may hold for us is, of course, in the mind of God. We labor in hope of eternal life and leave the rest up to His goodness and providence. We schedule evangelism efforts 4 times/year, during which we invite 4 or 5 faithful brethren from across the nation (and the world, if any is so inclined to be of assistance) to assist our efforts. The society in which we live is increasingly secular and very liberal in morality; it is imperative that a strong stand for truth and morality be planted in this community, County, and State. We fully intend to be that planted influence, preaching only the kingdom of God and those things that concern the Lord Jesus Christ.

If we can be of assistance to any in locating faithful Christians in our area, we humbly offer ourselves to that end.
